Salmonella Closes Barry Callebaut Chocolate Plant-Future Learning

A Barry chocolate ingredient plant in Belgium, publicized as the world largest chocolate factory has been temporarily shuttered due to salmonella contamination.

The plant is wieze northwest of Brussels, was shut down after salmonella bacteria were detected in product samples on June 27. The Wieze plant makes chocolate liquor and others ingredients for confectionary production.

Barry Callebaut said it has taken precautionary measures, including recalling all products manufactured since the time of testing. Production in Wieze will remain suspended until further notice. The company which made almost $ 8 billion in sales over the 2020-21 financial year, produces chocolate for other chocolate makers, including small chocolatiers and big name brands.
